What is Original Medicare?

Medicare Part A and Part B are referred to as Original Medicare.

Medicare Part A

This covers hospitals, skilled nursing facility care, nursing home care, hospice, and home health services. You are normally enrolled in Part A when turning 65. For most beneficiaries there is no cost for Part A.

Medicare Part B

Medicare Part B (medical insurance) covers doctors’ and other health care providers’ services, outpatient care, durable medical equipment, home health care, and some preventive services. The standard Medicare Part B premium is $170.10. (Individuals with incomes over 91,000 and married couples with incomes over $182,000 may pay more)
